Year End Review
I say it every year….I can’t believe it’s over! Is it just me or do the years seem to go by quicker and quicker the older we get? Or perhaps living in a global pandemic, adjusting to and creating new ways of doing almost everything has sped things up…regardless of how quick the year has passed, it’s time to start thinking about your personal “Year in Review”. While it’s naturally a time of winding down and taking our foot off the gas, it’s important to take some time and reflect on the year and ask yourself these questions:
1. How was this year for you?
What is the first word that comes to mind when you think back to the last year? What kind of feeling do you get? Was it a good year or are you running to the December 31st finish line?
2. Did you accomplish the goals you set for yourself this year?
Pull out and dust off that list of goals that you created on January 1st (we all have the list so don’t deny it…I’m onto you). Did you cross off each goal? If not, why? Did your goals change as the year progressed? Are there goals that no longer meet your needs?
3. What did you do for YOU over the year? Did you learn new skills? Did you step out of your comfort zone and push yourself to do scary but amazing things?
Take inventory of everything that you learned over the year. Books you read, training and educational opportunities that you sought out and completed, opportunities that took you out of your comfort zone, any reflective moments of self care and just being present.
4. Are there things you haven’t accomplished? Why are these things important? What will happen if you don’t accomplish them by the end of the year?
Are there goals on your list that you haven’t yet accomplished? Or maybe they’re just new to your list…either way, you need to determine why they’re so important. Are they important enough to accomplish in the last thirty days of the year or can they be transferred over to the new year goal list?
5. What has worked this year and what hasn’t? How will you do things differently in the new year? How did you go about setting your annual goals, rolling out the plan to accomplish each goal, keeping track of your list and re-evaluating each goal? Did each process work for you? Is there anything that you will do differently in the new year to increase your success?
There seems to be this notion that December is not the best month to be setting goals and driving ourselves to do anything but prepare for the festive season….but December is just as or even more important as any other month!!!
I encourage you to pick one thing that you can do to end the year with a big ole successful BANG!!
How do you want to remember this year?
