Follow Your Arrow

Anyone ever felt like there is something “out there” for you in life but you can’t quite figure out what? Have you tried to balance your life but no matter what you try it just ain’t working? Well check this out. I got a letter from a revolutionary sister who has been totally killing it with some self-leadership lately, and solving some of these problems. She did such an amazing job telling her story, I’m going to let her words speak for themselves.

Hi Carrie

I have been reading your materials and loving the things you do with F Revolution.  Your posts about work/life balance are bang on!  I just wanted to reach out to you and share an experience I recently had.

I was coming home stressed at the end of the day, tired, wishing my kids would just watch TV and leave me alone… just not loving life.  Someone told me “You’re not tired, you’re just uninspired” and it really got me thinking.  It’s hard to have any balance in life when you don’t like your job.  How can you come home refreshed and feeling accomplished?  You can’t.  My kids deserved better.  I decided I had to do something.

All my life I have felt there is “something” out there for me, but I never knew what.  I was always jealous of my friends in college who knew what they wanted to be.  I just knew I didn’t want a boring Monday – Friday job.  I wanted something exciting, adventurous, and a shit ton of pay, ha ha.  15 years later, guess who is stuck in a boring M- F job and hating life?

You talked recently about self care. I was neglecting myself, not in a “get a manicure way” but in a “sit and think about what I want” way.  I am so busy working to pay the bills, to feed the kids and take care of everything there is zero time left for me.  Sitting around thinking about what I want felt like something only a lazy person would do.

I felt like people would laugh at me if they knew I sitting around “thinking” for a half an hour or an hour while there was laundry and dishes to do, etc.  Ridiculous I know, but it wasn’t until I found F Revolution I realized there are women who think like me, only they have the courage to start being a leader of themselves!

Your courage gave me courage, and for the first time probably since I was a teenager, I sat down and spent some time thinking about what I actually want to do with my life.  I got a scary answer.  A terrifying answer.  I need to change jobs.  For some reason deep down inside I want an “adventure” career, not a M-F boring job.  And I realized I’ll never be happy where I currently am.  So as scary as changing jobs is, I know its what I need to do.  I’ve solved the problem and now I can actually take some action.

What action?  I have no idea yet.  Lol.  But finding out deep down inside what is causing me to be off balance feels like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders.  Had I not stopped and figured this out,  I would be trying solution after solution and wasting many more years.

My next step is to figure out what I was born to do!  Very scary but very exhilarating.  Thank you and F Revolution for helping me!

Wow, I love what she wrote about self leadership and getting ourselves figured out first.  It reminds me a bit of the Kacey Musgraves lyrics “Follow your arrow wherever it points”.  I think we all need to have the courage to spend some time thinking about what we want to do in life, and then have the courage to do it.  The universe has your back. You got this, sister!
