My inaugural F Revolution post….Eeeeeekkkk!!!  Nerve wracking and exciting, all at the same time!  But I am so excited to welcome you to the revolution and see what I’ve been planning and scheming and working on in spare bits of time over the past year.

Recently during lunch with a friend, we were talking about the website and why the leadership world needs women to kick butt right now, and barriers that can hold women back.  Her first answer was raw and honest, and one many women experience in their career, the feeling of “not being good enough”.

Trust me I know that feeling well, and as she told me about her own self doubts, it brought me to think of my journey.  The journey that lead to the creation of F Revolution was 100% full of bumps, distractions, self awareness and moments of feeling extremely vulnerable.   That’s when I knew this was the PERFECT inaugural post!

Well ladies, get ready because F Revolution is here and together we are going to help women find their true empowered, fearless and fabulous selves!!

It wasn’t long ago, I had a complete breakdown outside of a classroom full of university graduates who happen to be the most smartest humans in the world—okay well maybe I’m exaggerating a little, but at that very moment they all resembled Bill Gates & Steve Jobs in my eyes.

I had just finished a six-month online course in academic writing and critical thinking so I could prove that this little girl with only a college diploma could handle the Master’s level program that I was tentatively accepted into.  I passed and hopped onto an airplane and flew to join my cohort in beautiful British Columbia.  There was a lot of self talk happening on the long flight (and lots of wine drinking…that certainly helped) and I had myself convinced that I WAS GOOD ENOUGH and I wasn’t going to be out of my realm and everyone would love me.

After twenty minutes of being in class, I found myself pacing the hallway outside of the classroom, talking (maybe crying a little) to my husband on my cell phone and feeling like I was about to faint (I’m very fortunate,  he’s my biggest cheerleader EVER).  I was out of my realm!  I did NOT belong here!  What the HECK was I thinking?  I am NOT even close to being as smart as any of these people!  They’re going figure me out!!  I was ready to get on the next flight home to Ontario to be with MY people….and the wisest words came out of the mouth of my head cheerleader:  “YOU are good enough.  Stop underestimating yourself.  You are the smartest person I have ever met.  You are exactly where you are suppose to be.”

It was a bumpy ride but I made it.

Fast forward four years to today.  I have my dream job as the Executive Director of an AMAZING not for profit organization, and I have created a space for Fearless and Fabulous Females to learn from, support and empower each other to be leaders in their lives.

I want to help women everywhere learn what I learned.  Each and every one of you are good enough… in fact you are GREAT enough!  You are powerful beings and you can do and be ANYTHING that you want!   You know that inner voice that continues to tell you differently?  Get rid of it!!  Squash it and tell it to shut the heck up, because you my friend are on FIRE!!

Here are 5 things you can do right now to keep that voice under control:

  1. Fake it ‘til you make it: A friend of mine sent me Amy Cuddy’s Ted Talk “Your Body Language May Shape Who You Are”.   My mantra was adopted from this video (that I have watched several hundred times), “Fake it ‘til you make it” and oh how I’ve done just that.  Nothing shut my inner negative voice up like a good dose of Amy!  Be sure and check out her Ted Talk
  2. Step out of your comfort zone. Purposefully attend an event that you feel is way out of your realm or schedule lunch with someone that you feel would never want to have lunch with you.  You, my friend, will be surprised at just how you actually do fit into the event OR that person will be so thrilled to have lunch with you.  Every new success, even small ones, keep you feeling positive and in control of a little more of your life
  3. Meditate: Meditation has been a huge buzzword for a while now, one that I reluctantly embraced just a few months ago.  But guess what, turns out it actually works!  In the wise words of Gabby Bernstein “meditation is for everyone, it doesn’t have to take much time and anyone can sit still (even if it’s for just a moment)”.  In my own personal experience, the more I mediate and visualize, the more confidence I have to be the most fearless and fabulous version of me.  If you’ve been putting meditation off like I was, check out Gabby’s website for endless resources on mediation that helped me get started.
  4. Self Talk: Look yourself straight in the eye in every mirror you encounter and tell yourself that YOU ARE GOOD ENOUGH.  YOU ARE A POWERFUL WOMAN.  YOU ARE ON FIRE.  Whatever it is that energizes and empowers you.  I have sticky notes all over my bathroom mirror that reminds me of just how important I really am. If you can’t be your biggest fan, then how can you expect anyone else to cheer you on?
  5. Get some Cheerleaders:  Guard very closely who you surround yourself with. You want your circle to be full of like minded, motivated, positive and forward thinking peeps. Get rid of those who don’t share these traits. It’s not always easy to delete people from your life, but trust me, you won’t regret it.  Find people who celebrate your success and cheer you on.

PS…. Full Disclosure – I don’t make any money from the links posted in this article.  I mean, I’m not totally opposed to if Gabby or Amy want to J but I just posted them because I found them to be very helpful and thought you might like them too.
